NIOP TRADING RULES
 The National Institute of Oilseed Products’ Trading Rules are recognized worldwide as the standard for the trade and transportation of uniform high quality vegetable oil and oilseeds. These rules provide specifications for vegetable oil quality and descriptions and terms for seeds, nuts, and meals and cover types of sales and contracts, shipment terms, tank cars, trucks, barges and containers, performance of quantity specifications, quality specifications, survey procedures, acceptable prior cargoes (pdf) and many other aspects of trading in vegetable oils. You will also find information on chemists, samplers, and weighers, methods of analysis, guidelines for storage and transport of edible oils and Tank Truck Guidelines.
 These rules are updated on a regular basis to reflect changing practices in the trade. These rules provide specifications for vegetable oil quality and descriptions and terms for seeds, nuts, and meals. The specifications serve as the foundation for sales and contracts, definition of shipping terms for cargoes carried by tank cars, trucks, barges and containers. Performance of quantity specifications, quality specifications, survey procedures, acceptable prior cargoes (pdf) and many other aspects of trading in vegetable oils rely on the trading rules.
